A Podcast with Ross and Nick #102 - NO GUILT!

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #33-34! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 33 ) and X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 34 ): Ross is confused about Super Haters and liked the HyperComboCast, the guys recap what happened in APWRAN #101, Nick didn't watch X-Men #34, the art is ALLLLL fucked up in it, Ross took hilarious screen caps, the Purple Man makes an appearance, Taki has a badass wheelchair, and Skids can skid.

Then Ross and Nick read some fan mail from a long-time listener -- Aaron -- and a brand new listener -- Pierce. Thx, guys!

THEN... it's guilty pleasures! Ross was invited to be on a "Guilty Pleasures" panel at TCAF, but he passed. Nick doesn't believe in guilty pleasures when it comes to comics (or any art form, for that matter). Ross can enjoy all kinds of stories. Nick coins the term "Snoborati" -- the comics bloggers that push notions of what are "good" and "bad" comics -- and goes after them!

That leads to a discussion of Youngblood #1-4... Nick never read it before but he read it recently and loved it! Ross reminisces about reading Image books in the 90s. And then the guys dive into a convo of the Youngblood story and characters.

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 35 ) and something else.

Ross and Nick vs. CallGraph

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

On the whole, CallGraph is a great program. It's free, it's efficient, and it helps me record over a hundred podcasts a year. But every so once and awhile, it drops the ball.

Like last night, for example (and this time and this time and this time). Ross and I recorded a nearly flawless episode, sandwiched in between a lot of other good conversation. And, uhhhhhh, I hate to say it... but it's gone. Well, not so much gone as it just never recorded Ross and barely recorded me.

I'm waiting to hear back from Ross to see if he wants to record something quick today to take the place of what was supposed to be A Podcast with Ross and Nick #101. So the show might still happen this week. Or not.

But whatever it is, it won't be the solidness that was last night's intended #101 conversation.

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #100 - 90s X-Men X-Travaganza

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #32! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 32 ): Ross's screen caps, Nick's Skype confession (!!!), Ross's dish washing confession (!!!), and how come no one notices the weird shit going on with Jean Grey? At least Rogue was badass...

Then Ross and Nick talk about 90s X-Men comics! First up is Generation X (Nick loves Chris Bachalo's art!). Then it's X-Factor (including the forgotten Forge-led team!). Then it's late 90s Uncanny X-Men and X-Men (Ross loves Marrow!). And a bit of early 90s X-Men too (and how Image stole Ross away!). And some Joe Mad, too.

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 33 ) and Ross vs. Nick mud wrestling... PLACE YOUR BETS ON WHO WILL WIN.

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #99 - Fratboy Realism

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #31! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 31 ): Rogue was on a mission, Black Tom and Banshee get turned into siblings, Banshee looks like a flying squirrel, and Juggernaut is stupid.

Fratboy realism. Ross invented it... but it's got a life of its own! We read our definitions (shout out to Bo and his definition). Then we argue about our definitions. Fratboy realism vs. nerd realism. Culture wars and mob mentality. Gritty!!!

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 32 ) and our anniversary celebration!!!

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #98 - Return of the Turtlecast

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #30! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 30 ): The Phoenix Saga sucks so far, Jean Grey cosplay is funny, we go off on a tangent about sexualized superheroes, and Beast is annoying.

Then it's TMNT!!! The Turtlecast is back and it's a doozy. We talk about TMNT back issues, City at War, the colored bandannas, if the TMNT should ever wear masks at all, and what we'd like to see in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie relaunch.

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 31 ) and fratboy realism (for real this time!!!).

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #97 - Genre Rocket

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #29! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 29 ): Shi'ar SUCKFEST!!! The X-Men steal a rocket, Eric the Red has foxy legs, screen caps, and Xavier's wheels.

Writing and genre!!! Ross loves writing, Nick distracts him with a mention of Action Double Feature, Ross thinks prose has more genre diversity than comics, Nick is confused about genre nomenclature, and MORE!!! WE DIG DEEP!

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 30 ) and fratboy realism!!!

A Podcast with Ross and Kaylie #96 - Character Design

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

Unconventional pt. 2 = cancelled... but Kaylie and her crazy radio voices are back for another round of X-Men and comics creation conversation!!!

EXTREME #28! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 28 ): We talk about Ross's screen caps for the entire X-Men convo. That means misshapen Beast, annoying green light, and Jubilee's weird elongated sideways boobs.

Then it's time for an epic character design conversation!!! Ross discusses how he evolves the look of characters naturally for Wet Moon, and how he decided the proportions of Shadoweyes's big ol' head. Kaylie talks about developing her wild and detailed characters for Dinogeddon. And Nick discusses the importance of color in his character designs... all while designing his latest Super Haters character! Here's a sneak peak:

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 29 ) and, uhhh, something else!

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #95 - Unconventional pt. 1

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

Kaylie lives next to the radio towers, Nick wants you to read the Shadoweyes guest spot in Super Haters (and fan Super Haters on Facebook), and Ross reveals how the very first Shadoweyes crossover happened (it's not Super Haters!).

EXTREME #27! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 27 ): We were right!!! This is the actual beginning of Season 3 (and Marvel.com is wrong). The animation is definitely different... more highlights!!! They never show Wolverine killing Lady Deathstrike's father (which is confusing), and why do people go in tubes and come out with powers?

Then we talk about conventions! Ross enjoys smaller conventions more because they're less depressing. And in general, to him, cons are good business opportunities (but he hates the stress). Kaylie likes the excitement and new-ness of cons, but gets really exhausted. And Nick absolutely hates conventions.

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 28 ) and conventions part 2!!!

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #94 - Entitled

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #26! X-Men ( Season 2, Episode 26 ): More Savage Land bullshit. Is this the season finale? NOOO it's not. Wolverine's claws, Chuck's legs, and Jurassic Park.

Then it's fan entitlement! We drop references like Achewood, Infinity War, Neil Gaiman, and tons more as we talk about what we think comics creators do and do not owe to their fans.

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 2, Episode 27 ) and another enlightening comics convo.

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #93 - Savage Adaptation

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #25! X-Men ( Season 2, Episode 25 ): Is He-Man is a Ka-Zar ripoff? ENTER THE SAVAGE LAND!!! How does it work? How does it fit into the rest of the Marvel Universe? SCREEN CAPS! And Nick gets distracted by Gilbert Gottfried.

Then... our new format debuts! Inspired by Sequential Underground, we're talking about comics creation, and our first topic is: Comics adaptations and other media we'd like to see our comics adapted into!!!

QRD interviews (Ross and Nick), Wet Moon TV dramas, Nick's big list of adaptations he'd like to see (Time Log: The Play), and Ross talks about the Shadoweyes short film currently in pre-production.

Does the creator own derivatives of the derivative? Bill Watterson's licensing fears. Video game adaptations!!! (Wet Moon point and click game, Mountain Girl RPG, etc.) And what media do we NOT want to see our comics adapted into??? (Super Haters Clue vs Wet Moon Clue)

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 2, Episode 26 ) and more comics creation conversation.

NOTE: I'm not gonna embed the X-Men episodes in the podcast posts anymore. I'll still link to the current and next episodes like I always do, but the embeds are a pain in the ass, not to mention an unnecessarily heavy amount of code.
