ComicShocker Week 22 2008

I’ve been pretty busy lately so the ComicShocker actually (GASP!) missed its first week ever last week. Instead, the AudioShocker got an SEO update. I think that’s a fair trade.

Keeping it short and sweet this week, I’m going to pass along a link to more free comics online. Ahhh, free comics how I love you…

This week we’re checking out Gemini #1 for free. I’m a big Dynamo 5 fan, a series by Jay Faerber and Mahmud A Asrar. Since Gemini is written by Faerber as well, I caught a bunch of previews in the back of my Dynamo 5 issues.

Well, I didn’t get to pick up Gemini #1. But now I can read the first issue of Gemini for free over on Newsarama. I’m ashamed to say that at the time of writing this, I still haven’t read the comic. But I’m a busy guy, damn it.

Speaking of which, the AudioShocker (a.k.a. just me) will be at Wizard World Philadelphia this weekend (a.k.a. just Saturday for a few hours). Email me at nick@audioshocker.com if you want to meet up and say hi. Feel free to attach nude photos to your email (ladies only, please).

ComicShocker Week 10 2008

Okay this is going to be a little strange. I’m doing some blog cross pollination here. I posted a thread over on Newsarama with content originally intended for my other non-AudioShocker blog Nasty Musings.

This thread I posted was a prime example of online comic book community collaboration. It was irreverent, tactless, sporadic, and it touched many different types of people from casual fans to comic book professionals.

Here’s a shot of the image that was central to this thread (click on it to see it bigger):

The concept was easy: fill in the blank word balloons. I’d post the best three on my Nasty Musings blog.

Well here I am on the AudioShocker and I’m going to post my favorite three replies to this thread. Sorry Nasty Musings, maybe you’ll win next time. Here we go:

3. It’s sort of unfair but this post by veteran comic book writer Peter David wins the bronze for simply being a raunchy joke by a seasoned pro that we all know.

2. I appreciate this post by President Kang for the sheer fact that it takes an obviously dirty picture and puts ironically innocent words to it. It’s almost dirtier than the other posts because it refuses to mention the obvious…

1. But then again, this post by DugC shows that mentioning the obvious is still pretty damn funny. This raw and direct approach is, in my opinion, the winner.

Thanks to everyone who participated. There wasn’t a single bad entry. And remember, “All Rhodes lead to Rome!!!” (thanks, NoPrize).

ComicShocker Week 06 2008

There is no ComicShocker for this week. I just don’t feel inspired. However, the comic book buzzword for this week is “community” - so go join (or login) to the Talk@ message boards over at Newsarama.com and get involved in the online comic book fan community. Watch out though because fans can be passionate and prone to posting some pretty harsh messages. Just don’t take anything too personal and you’ll be okay.
