AudioShocker Podcast #245 - Real Shit

AudioShocker Podcast

Hosts:
Neal Shyam and Nick Marino

Guest:
Justique Woolridge

Show Notes:
It's the end. The final episode. After six and a half years of honest conversation, weird jokes, technical problems, and eating noises, we've decided to hang up our filth-soaked hand towel and retire the AudioShocker.

On this, our 788th podcast (recorded live in Neal's Brooklyn apartment!), we talk about whatever the hell we wanna talk about. That means goofy NSFW stories and a little bit of AudioShocker nostalgia.

Nick also shares a personal recap of the 2014 MoCCA Arts Fest, with shoutouts to AudioShocker listeners and exhibitors Doug DeRocher and Delia Gable.

Finally, Justique delivers a live disclaimer over the end theme, and we play listener messages from Carrie Howarth and Michael a.k.a. dreadnaut.

    this podcast is over.

  2. 2 nick marino

this podcast is so over that it's over me before i'm over it.

  3. 3 Justique

The podcast says it's over us, but I'm sitting outside of its apartment right now and it seems pretty upset about us being over. That, or that I boiled its stuffed bunny.

Oh. God. I sound like a complete dork. Now I remember why I don’t listen to myself, haha!

So, I just wanted to add a thank you to Ross and Nick who laughed at my stupid skateboarding story and silly fan art. A special thank you to Nick who helped me dig myself out of my apparently highly inflammatory Audioshocker comment where I was burned not once, but twice (the second time by Mark E Rogers who literally appeared out of nowhere… and Mark, if you’re reading this I promise I’ll pick up one of your novels as soon as I regain enough of an attention span to read one ;-) )

Oh, and is “Carrie” my guild name? Umm… yeah, sure. Let’s go with that! Actually, a long time ago (before my dreams were coldly stomped into the ground by life) I had played with a couple of potential pen names… but that’s a story for another time.

One last thing… now you got me craving delicious northeastern Chinese take-out. Thanks. Adding that to the list of things I miss down here along with good pizza and a decent comic book store.

@Justique: I would think that the podcast would be happy about you boiling the stuffed bunny. I mean, think of all the germs inside of that stuffing...

  7. 6 Justique

Germs? Its the Audioshocker, not a fucking baby. Those cooties can't be boiled away.

@Carrie: I never in my wildest dreams thought that pizza, Chinese food, and comic shops would all be better in the northeast... BUT THEY ARE!

I mean, Chinese food could be good anywhere, right? But for some reason, I've only had amazing American Chinese food in Pennsylvania and New York.

Pizza is another thing that seems like it could be amazing outside of the northeast. But it almost never is! I guess Chicago pizza is pretty good too, but in a different way.

And comic shops? I've been to some cool ones in the Phoenix area. But nothing that beats Pittsburgh yet!

  10. 8 nick marino

@Justique: It's too hot in this apartment for me to come up with a funny joke response. All I can do is sweat and be happy that I'm not in NYC anymore.

  11. 9 Justique

...this is exactly why the Audioshocker left us, Nick.

But.... it just said it was going out for a pack of cigarettes and it would be right back!!!

  14. 11 Carrie

@Nick: You know what ELSE sucks outside of the northeast? Bagels. Seriously, I haven't had a decent bagel in years and it's killing me.

@Justique: Speaking of regional foods... have you tried the chocolate balls yet?

  15. 12 nick marino

I agree, the bagels are better there. But my bagel standards are pretty low, so I can eat them just about anywhere and not think about it.

@Carrie: I still need to try those chocolate balls. I don't like chocolate-AT ALL- but the idea is so fantastic I don't even care lol. Are there any specific brands to look for/ steer clear of?

  22. 17 Carrie

@Justique: I can only find one brand in the stores, so really don't have anything to compare it to... but the brand is Carib and it comes with cinnamon leaves. Is it all forms of chocolate that you don't like, or just candy bars?

@Nick and @Neallllll A cinnamon raisin bagel pizza might work with the right toppings ;-)

  23. 18 nick marino

Raisins, pepperoni, anchovies, a sweet cinnamon swirl.... ya know, the works!

@Carrie: Most chocolate is gross to me. I don't know, I really dislike the flavor so the more artificial the better. For instance, white chocolate's good but white chocolate is cocoa fat and cream. That being said, I could hunt down these balls, take enough of a bite to remember that, yeah I hate chocolate and give the rest to Nick. I still wanna try regardless because I like trying new styles of food. I can't say for certain I won't like it til I try lol.

  30. 23 nick marino

I wanna eat your leftover balls, baby.

  31. 24 Carrie

@Justique: Haha, just remember the things are unsweetened, so they probably WILL taste aweful if you try to take a bite out of them! They're meant to be made into "tea" with sugar, condensed milk (or milk substitute), cinnamon, and essentially make a really rich hot cocoa. They're already naturally loaded with cocoa butter, but a little extra sugar and vanilla might help with the flavor for you. Let me know if you need a recipe.
