Allegheny Teen Center Reading Program #27 – …

Allegheny Teen Center Reading Program

Hank Andrews-McZewski and Nick Marino

Show Notes:

On the night of March 31st, 2014, the life of Hank “300” Andrews-McZewski was snuffed out after a tense standoff with Allegheny County authorities. Deeply saddened by the cancellation of the Allegheny Teen Center’s long-standing Reading Program, Hank barricaded himself inside of his beloved Teen Center and was shot to death by police officers who mistakenly believed he was holding hostages.

This podcast contains the last words of Hank 300, a passionate individual who refused to let the at-risk teens of the Alleghenies go without literature for their burgeoning minds. Never one to play it safe and pander to Teen Center parents, Hank continually pushed those around him by discussing provocative and thoughtful books that challenged the bland standards of the status quo.

I will now honour him by devoting my life to helping teens pursue literature.

That’s so special. I think he would really like that.
