Sequential Underground #85 – Go F*ck Yourself

Sequential Underground

Hosts:
Shawn Atkins and Nick Marino

Show Notes:

It’s the final episode of Sequential Underground on the AudioShocker! We kick things off with some regional Culinary Underground conversation, discussing the food offerings on S Craig St in Pittsburgh, PA (where Shawn just started a new job).

Nick is pitching “The Graphic Novel Formerly Knows As The Bible 2” to publishers and we recount some of our failed pitches from the past. Among those is Shawn and Nick’s failed animation pitch for Li’l Bastards, which was rejected by Frederator Studios for being too much too soon after the Sandy Hook shootings.

Shawn also shares the finished version of his Gello Apocalypse / Star Wars mashup! Last week, he posted the inks for this piece on the Gello blog.

Speaking of last week, HaterMania body slammed the internet with its muscly goodness! Shawn and Nick recount the long and winding journey of their Super Haters collaboration, discussing the prolonged creation process from start to finish.

So what’s next for Sequential Underground? We dunno! Shawn might continue it on another website or this episode might be THE END. Either way, you can always access all of our past episodes on the Sequential Underground archives page.

Confused about why Sequential Underground is wrapping up? Check out this podcast from last week and then come back to AudioShocker.com this Wednesday, February 26th for a special announcement about the future of our podcasts!

    Nick and Shawn, thanks for all great shows. This podcast filled a void in comic book podcasts. Listening to two fellow independent creators talk about making comics was very helpful and enjoyable. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only lunatic slaving away making comics. Finally it was an pleasure to be on one episode of the Sequential Underground.

    bye bye

    I worked at a Subway, um… nineteen years ago. Back then, we used to cut a big wedge out of the middle of the bread. Then cram the meat and stuff down in there and replace the cut out wedge on top of it all. It was much better than the way it’s sliced now.

    It was the opposite of the Jared weight loss thing back then. The ad campaign then was from the Coneheads movie. “Consume Mass Quantities!”

    While working there, you could go into the freezer and take a ball of frozen, white chocolate, macadamia nut cookie dough and shove it in your mouth, to eat.

    Their mayonnaise was labeled “heavy duty mayonnaise”.

    A guy once ordered some sub then asked me to apply vinegar until he said stop. It was a long time until he said stop. Then he quipped, “I want the douche special.” I still don’t really know what he meant.

    @Doug: You were an awesome guest!!! Thanks for listening and interacting with us. I’ll let you know the next time I’m in Boston.

    @DAM: Hi.

    @Francisco: OMG. The wedge!!! I forgot about that. I remember not liking Subway bread much back then, but I didn’t hate it like I do now. Nowadays, the smell clings to your clothes like a creepy chemical or something.

    Hahaha Coneheads advertising campaign. So unappetizing.

    Maybe the chemical in douches is like vinegar? Or maybe he meant he was just trying to clean out his insides? Weird.

    Growing up in the northeast, Subway was kind of a joke. There were so many places to get good, relatively inexpensive hoagies that Subway was a confusing presence. I guess it’s kind of like having Taco Bells in the southwest. (I mean, they have them… but it’s like “why go there?!?”)

    @Nick Well… Ok, but remember… you asked for it! The chemical in most douches IS vinegar.

    In fact, here’s one of many helpful online recipes:
    1/4 part white vinegar
    3/4 part water

    Makes you want a salad, huh. >:}

    I like vinegar.

    Nick and Shawn,

    Please note I haven’t listened to this specific podcast as of yet, but the news that this is the LAST “Sequential Underground” is very unwelcome news! WTF!!

    I’ve enjoyed the banter, the subjects, interviews, and the frequent wandering away from the task at hand.

    Tomo
