A Podcast with Kaylie and Nick #184 - Disapproving Bunnies

A Podcast with Kaylie and Nick

Hosts:
Kaylie McDougal and Nick Marino

Related Posts:
We made you some ALF screencaps and Sailor Moon screencaps.

Show Notes:
We're sick of mediocre episodes of ALF. That's why this podcast is going to be the last time you hear us BARF for the foreseeable future.

  • In ALF s3 e3, Mr. Ochmonek moves in with the Tanners. Mediocrity ensues.
  • In ALF s3 e4, ALF dreams of hosting The Tonight Show. Mediocrity ensues.
  • In ALF s3 e5, Lynn dates a guy twice her age. Mediocrity ensues.
  • And in ALF s3 e6, it's Thanksgiving and more mediocrity ensues.

After that we talk about how modern kids are all serious and shit. Do they even like going to Chuck E. Cheese's anymore? No. They wanna go on a Lord & Taylor shopping trip or something equally as boring.

Then we chit chat about Sailor Moon episodes 12-13. In e12, there's no haunted object or location! Just a good old fashioned evil plot to use a cruise ship to steal lifesoul energy or whatever they call it in the Negaverse.

Next, the team fights male chauvinism in e13. WHO WILL WIN?!? Hint: her name is in the title of the show.

And, finally, after the end theme we talk about pets and animals and food and other interesting stuff.

Next Episode:
NO MORE ALF!!! We discuss Sailor Moon episodes 14-15 and much more.

really sorry to hear you won't be doing ALF reviews anymore, but I can understand as ALF pretty much goes downhill during season 3 into season 4. there are a few good episodes in season 3, but like you said there are only a few. so I'm okay with it if you want to take a break from ALF for a while.

yeah, what depresses me the most about the next generation of kids is they want to get into the latest fashion or gadgets so quickly and try to pretend to be adults so fast and never really experience the simply pleasures of just being a kid. when I was a kid going to places like chuckie cheese and discovery zone were the shit and really didn't have much in the way of technology, I really didn't get my first computer until I was 13 and never knew what the internet was until then.

I have much love for a few of the ALF episodes in Season 3... especially towards the end of the season. But I forgot how awful the not-so-good the bad episodes are in Season 3. I guess I normally just skip over them when I watch the DVD.

I definitely don't want to give up on ALF forever. Maybe just another month or two. Plus, watching four TV shows for every podcast feels like too much sometimes!!!

The one thing I was definitely NOT excited to do as a kid was grow up. I'm still trying to avoid it as much as possible. And I think I'm damn good job.

    Hi Kaylie and Nick,

I found your show in the Fall when I got hooked on ALF and watched every episode of the tv show and the cartoons and Project ALF and the talk show. I loved your episodes about ALF, and thought it was cool to hear a podcast with someone else from the downriver area (I live in Taylor). I really hope BARF resumes and you get to my favorite episode, Make Em Laugh.

My whole thesis about ALF, and why I wanted to watch the show after seeing clips of him in various things, is that he's not funny. And I think that's why everything outside the sitcom fails as entertainment, because the joke is that ALF is incredibly annoying and his jokes are terrible, like a really bad comedian. And it's like what if this alien was a hack comedian and you had to put up with him. Nothing captures that better than Make Em Laugh. I gotta go, ERIC IN CHAAAAHGE IS ON!

@kidglov3s: Thanks for listening to us BARF about ALF!!!

I love your ALF thesis! It's such a great observation. When people respond to ALF like he's funny, it just doesn't work. But when everybody is the "straight man" to ALF's awful jokes, the tension is beautiful.

Your thesis makes me want to start watching ALF again!!!! I should bring it up on our next episode so Kaylie and I can figure out what we want to do.

Downriver area is a great regional term! I gotta use that in something.
