Just because the term "false advertising" can be abused doesn't mean that there's no such thing as false advertising. Claims of "fraud" or "medical malpractice" can be, and often are, abused, but that doesn't mean that those things don't exist.
When I saw the ads for Super 8, I thought it was going to be very sentimental, because of the group of cute kids having an adventure in a Spielberg movie. Since all the J.J. Abrams stuff I've seen uses sci-fi elements as mcguffins and never really explores them in the way I want, I figured that's what would happen with the alien stuff in Super 8. So I knew this flick wasn't for me.
Actually, I liked Super 8...thought it was a fun movie, and a far better effort than J.J. Abrams' last monster-from-space effort, "Cloverfield".
Also, Nick...the kids do finish that movie they were making...it plays during the end credits!

@Paul again: I liked Star Trek, so I thought maybe I'd like Super 8. I guess not.
@Kenny: I may have said it wrong -- I meant that the filmmaking process gets abandoned like halfway through and they never follow up on it. I think it would have been way better if they were still filming their movie throughout the evacuation and all that chaos.

Well, to be fair, Nick...they do contemplate it. I remember them debating on using the footage they caught by accident when the train crashed, but opted not to for some technical reason. Maybe that was for the best? I mean, last thing I'd be thinking about with an alien on the loose and the military blasting EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE is finishing some small time movie. That's just me, though.
