HyperComboCast has been KO'd this week!

Another AudioShocker casualty! Kenny Riot has been in the process of moving this past week, and fitting in the HCC just isn't gonna happen. And, frankly, I can't complain because I'm still really behind on stuff!

Anyway, we'll be back next week... hopefully delivering the near-infamous Changing the Game pt 2 that we've been delaying for almost a month now.

In the meantime, enjoy (if that's even possible) these ridiculous videos of me playing World Heroes 2 Jet:

OH YEAH!!! That's a whole lotta viking video game action.

Catch the AudioShocker at NYCC 2011 in the Podcast Arena!

I've already announced it on the AudioShocker Podcast, Sequential Underground, and A Podcast with Ross and Nick, but I'm gonna say it again...

The AudioShocker will be in the Podcast Arena at the New York Comic Con!

NYCC 2011 Podcast Arena

That's right. We'll be at the 2011 New York Comic Con from Oct 13-16 at the Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan.

Here's the NYCC 2011 schedule:

We'll be kicking it near Artist's Alley with other shows like Comics News Insider, Comic Geek Speak, Indie Spinner Rack, and more.

Here's what you can expect to find at our table:

  • AudioShocker Comics (both old and new, featuring print versions of Time Log, Super Haters, Zombie Palin, and more)
  • Curated CD collections of our podcasts (debuting at NYCC, these collections will bring together some of our best episodes)
  • Nick and/or Neal and/or Dan
  • Maybe Ross (he's trying to act all cool and be like "ohhhh uhhh maybe I'll stop by..." but you know he's gonna be there)
  • Super-mega-awesome AUDIOSHOCKER COMICS TRIVIA CHALLENGE (with kickass prizes that I'll announce as we get closer to the date of the show -- expect some rad stuff!)

That's all the info I have for right now. I'll be updating this blog post as a I find out more like our exact location, all the prizes for the trivia, and other special stuff.

UPDATE 1 - Location:

The AudioShocker will be located at table D15 in Artist Alley.

That's allllll the way on the far side of the show floor (if you're looking at a con map, all the way to the left).

We'll be sandwiched between Comic Timing and Comic Geek Speak.

Mmmm... podcast sandwich.

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #111 - Crash

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

FIRST: Nick leads off with announcements about Podcamp Pittsburgh and NYCC 2011.

BUT: Ross is dreading the fact that he has to call his insurance agent... so he talks about his driving history and past car crashes. Nick relates his (MOSTLY FALSE) car crash stories, as well as the (TRUE!) time he fought for his wallet after waking up on the streets of Miami.

THEN: Jason A asked us about collaboration. Ross discusses his failed collaboration attempts and drops some good advice about starting out slow. And Nick shares what he's learned from his previous collabos.

AND: Ross wants to know who's on the cover to Wolverine and the X-Men #1.

PLUS: Kya-Kyabetsu wants to know about finding a publisher and getting paid. Ross recommends showing your work to publishers at conventions. Or self-publishing. As for getting paid... uhhhh... he suggests getting paying jobs from publishers even though it's tough.

NEXT: Makeup tips and the fashion in Ross's comics!

Project Basement - Rhino by Eric Shonborn

Project Basement

Rhino by Eric Shonborn

Rhino by Eric Shonborn

Eric Shonborn enters the basement!!! And he's brought kickass a Good Bad Guy version of the Rhino with him. Actually, kickass is wrong... it's more like so-cute-that-your-eyeballs-wanna-pop-out-and-give-you-a-hug!

You can get more Eric on his self-titled website, his comics art collective Ok, PANIC!, or on the Gutter Trash podcast.

NEXT: As Shawn Atkins approaches marital bliss, he takes a break to stop by and give us something super!!!

AudioShocker Podcast #195 - YEAAAH!!!

AudioShocker Podcast

FIRST: Nick announces his upcoming session at Podcamp Pittsburgh -- Podcasting 201 @ 2 PM on Saturday, September 17th.

ALSO: Don't forget -- we're gonna be at NYCC.

AND: Why does Neal hate freedom?

ACTUALLY: No, he doesn't hate freedom. He just hates when TV shows split their seasons in half.

NEXT: Emily McGuiness joins us to discuss her graphic novel, Ties. HOW WILL WE MANAGE TO OFFEND HER? Listen and find out!!!

Stuff is gonna be a few days late this week...

If anyone follows my Super Haters blog, then you already know that I've had some personal family stuff (not to mention a massive cold) that's derailed me a bit. That, in combination with Neal's new job, means that AudioShocker is working on a weird time schedule for the rest of the week.

Expect everything to still be out -- AudioShocker Podcast, A Podcast with Ross and Nick, Time Log, and Project Basement -- but don't necessarily expect them to be out on their normal days! For example, the AudioShocker Podcast will probably air on Thursday morning, while the Ross and Nick show might be on Friday.

HyperComboCast Bonus Stage #1 - Women in Fighting Games

HyperComboCast Podcast

This first Bonus Stage branches off of HyperComboCast 8: Character Design. In that episode, Nick and I spoke about the importance of character designs in fighting games, and other random related stuff.

For Bonus Stage 1, Nick and I are joined by my awesome feminist friend, Michelle, to discuss various aspects of the presence of women in fighting games, and the representation of women in other media as well. Nick is unsure at first if he'll have anything of interest or importance to say, but as the conversation goes on, he actually shares valid thoughts! Stop doubting yourself, Nick!

Project Basement - Swamp Thing by Byron Winton

Project Basement

Swamp Thing by Byron Winton

Swamp Thing by Byron Winton

Byron "Badass Masta Blasta Put-Your-Leg-In-A-Cast" Winton is back in the Basement! And for PBv4, he's delivering an organic sketch of a natural man -- a Bad Good Guy version of Swamp Thing!!!

Here's what B-Ron has to say about it:

Ol' Moss-Face has a vice and it's sucking down the incinerated leaf. Running down ecological criminals is a tough job. A rescue from the gaping maw of a bayou gator is a laborious feat. Swimming deep dark murky waters bogs him down. Alec Holland or Swamp Thing, as he's come to be known, just wants to kick back and puff a little weed under a mighty Cypress. A stress release is as close as a pluck from a nearby bush or a twist of a sprig from himself. Mild, smooth, and earthy.

I'm SOLD!!! Move over Marlboro Man, there's a new cancer peddler in town.

NEXT: Eric Shonborn gets horny! Errrr, uhhh... tusky.

No New Time Log This Week... But a GIFT!!!

Sorry!!! Last week's Pittsburgh Zine Fair really kicked my regular schedule in the ass I've been playing catch up all week. And now Time Log is the innocent victim!!!

However, I do have a gift for you -- the finished version of the unicorn image I've been teasing for the past few weeks:

Gorgeous, right? It was dreamed up by Pete, penciled and inked by Shawn, and colored by yours truly!

Sequential Underground #24 - Doing Diversity

Sequential Underground

The podcast by indie comics creators for indie comics creators diversifies!

First up, a few announcements -- Nick and the AudioShocker will be in the Podcast Arena at NYCC 2011! Dan's gonna be there too, using his glorious Comic Book Pitt press pass to get the latest scoops from the con floor!!!

BUT WAIT! There's more! This Friday, Sept 9th, will be the first monthly B-Movie Craft Night at Assemble in Pittsburgh. It's the brainchild of Shawn and Nina Barbuto. Also, shoutout to the upcoming PodCamp Pittsburgh event.

TODAY'S TOPIC: Representing different kinds of characters in your comics. Our discussion is inspired by Pierce Johnson, who asked us to tackle this topic.

It's an in depth discussion about displaying diversity on the page without resorting to stereotypes or character cliches. We discuss character development, dialogue, depiction, features, coloring, and taking inspiration from real life.

NEXT: Our friend Wayne Wise joins us to discuss his new novels and his body of comics work!
