Time Log #44

While tussling for control of the unicorn horn inside of PastPete's metal arm, Hitler and FutureNixon were sucked into the Time Vortex. Soon, they arrived in 2069, transformed into a giant metal mutant beast... a MegaHitlerNixon!!!

Well, that's it for Nick. It's kinda suspicious that Pete's not only the main character of Time Log... he's the main characters. Hmph. There was only ever one Nick and now he's dead. WHERE'S THE JUSTICE IN THAT?

For some reason, as I was getting ready to post this comic, I was mourning Nick's death and this song popped into my head. It' doesn't make any damn sense, really. Maybe I just listened to too much James Brown as a kid.

Before I sign off, I gotta send a huge THANK YOU to Tina, Shawn's friend. Months ago, I asked you, our highly-valued readers what you'd like to see in future installments of Time Log. And Tina suggested rainbows shooting out of the unicorn horns!

At the time, Pete and I already knew that MegaHitlerNixon would be wearing a unicorn horn on its head like a cherry on top on of a molten metal sundae... and adding Tina's rainbow blast idea to the recipe was like spraying a layer of delicious webcomics whipped cream all around the sides.

Sequential Underground #19 - Finding Your Voice

Sequential Underground

The podcast by indie comics creators for indie comics creators gets vocal!

[NOTE: Sequential Underground has moved to Wednesdays!!! It'll alternate weeks with A Podcast with Ross and Nick, making Wednesday the new comics podcast day on the AudioShocker!]

Inspired by this ArtBistro article, Shawn wants to talk about finding an artistic voice.

It's a tough topic... existentially artistic, if you will. And the SU crew leaps face-forward into the discussion with reckless abandon.

Nick is confused about the difference between artistic voice and artistic style. Seth thinks voice is inherent in the artistic process. And Dan thinks it takes a lot of time before someone develops an artistic voice that's worth listening to.

NEXT: Traditional vs. non-traditional work methods!!!

AudioShocker Podcast #184 - Yamagato Shocker Superhero Throwdown pt 1

AudioShocker Podcast

A Month of Yamagato concludes as Beeslo, Mongo, and Link all get in on the action!!!

It's a long-awaited superhero movie throwdown between Beeslo and Nick. First up? The X-Men movies! Nick defends X-Men Origins: Wolverine (*SINK SMASH*), while Beeslo likes First Class a lot. They both agree that Spider-Man 2 is the best of the trilogy, and Neal offers good insights on why the rejected trailer was better than the first Spider-Man. And the Superman series doesn't do much for anyone. At all.

NEXT: Listen to the Yamagato Shocker Superhero Throwdown pt 2 on YIBR, coming this weekend!!!

UPDATE: Here's Part 2!

HyperComboCast #4 - The Shadow Falls

HyperComboCast Podcast

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: We're going weekly!!! Also, Nick talks briefly about Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters.

AND THEN IT'S TIME FOR THE DOUBLE DRAGON FIGHTING GAMES PODCAST!!!

Replaying Double Dragon V: The Shadow Falls crushed Kenny's spirit. And Nick didn't even play it because he doesn't know how to work his SNES emulator.

Double Dragon Neo Geo

Both Kenny and Nick agree that the Double Dragon (Neo Geo) fighting game rules... especially the valley girl announcer. Surprisingly fun gameplay, interesting character choices, and great background details.

But Rage of the Dragons divides Kenny and Nick.... Kenny digs it, while Nick's underwhelmed by it. Kenny runs down the characters and discusses the moves, and Nick talks about Kang's racist and sexist win quotes.

NEXT: DOA: Dead or Alive and fighting game movies!

Time Log #43

As Hitler and FutureNixon struggled for control of FuturePete's metal arm, the contraption broke open and the unicorn horn floated into the air!!! Soon, the evil duo were sucked away into the Time Vortex in a massive puff of Time Smoke...

MUUWAAAAHAHAHAHAH!!! The ultimate villain is revealed!!

The monstrosity you see above has an incredible name... in fact, the name was supposed to appear in the dialogue of today's comic. But it just didn't feel natural to me. So I called Pete at the last minute and he agreed to switch things up a bit.

I suggested "RARR!!!" but Pete cleverly suggested that we tie things into the panther motif we had going in Time Log #41... and thus "RAWRR!!!" was born! Interesting stuff, right? (Not really...)

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #105 - Fandoms

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

It's another double-sized Ross and Nick episode to fill the double-sized whole in your empty, meaningless life!!!

EXTREME #38-39! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 38 ) and X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 39 ): Nick's screen caps, confusing Jean Grey references, these episodes broke Ross and he's ready to give up, and he almost convinces Nick... BUT THEY DECIDE TO KEEP GOING! Also, hilarity of the X:TAS episode list.

PLUS: Animals Being Dicks. THEN: The difference between fandoms for mainstream properties and indie stuff. Sharing, broad characterization, fan fiction, fan art, and deeper exploration!!!

IN TWO WEEKS: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 40 ) and X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 41 ) and more blabber.

AudioShocker Podcast #183 - The Neal Delay

AudioShocker Podcast

A Month of Yamagato rolls on, featuring Link from YIBR!!!

Sodium laurel sulfate, Neal saw Midnight In Paris, jawn, Link saw Super 8, Justique checked out Sex Machine, Nick liked Burt Reynolds in The End and Waterproof...

And after the end theme it's the grudge match of the year -- Nanny from Muppet Babies vs. Miss Frizzle from the Magic School Bus!!!

Sequential Underground #18 - Giving Up

Sequential Underground

The podcast by indie comics creators for indie comics creators gives up!

Dan wants to know: When's it time for an indie comics creator to hang up the towel?

Shawn likes the Webcomic Alliance* answer to the the question. Nick thinks it comes down to economics, emotions, and artistic growth. Dan admits to struggling with this question himself and Nick has bizarre sources of inspiration. And Hardball starts a chain of corny sports analogies.

*Dan's downer topic was coincidentally covered on Webcomic Alliance less than two weeks ago -- check it out.

Open Forum Book Club 003

Hey audioshockers! I've been in New Haven all week to visit my family (and Dad's Day / Mom's Birthday are adjacent). Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to read anything new - so this week I must place the onus squarely upon you to get this forum going. So let's blow the doors off the book club this week and get it crackin!

I am considering picking up this new joint, Robopocalypse - by Daniel Wilson, since the first chapter/intro were good and Stephen King cosigned it.

Time Log #42

Still in Berlin, 1945. Hitler and FutureNixon were wrestling for control of FuturePete's detached metal arm when suddenly...

FINALLY, THINGS SHIFT IN THE FAVOR OF OUR HEROES! Took long enough, right? Well, enjoy it while it lasts because they're not out of the shit yet...

Speaking of shit, Shawn and I are collaborating on Super Haters this week. In fact, it's a little story I like to call "Shawn Atkins Guest Week"! And today's comic is especially disgusting. Go read it!!!

EDIT: Oh wait! I almost forgot. My friends at the Yamagato webcomic (sorta) punk'd me the other day!

See, Beeslo and I have long since established our opposing views of the great John Romita, Jr. -- I think he's a modern master, while Beeslo hates the "monkey hands" (his phrase, not mine) the JRjr gives to his characters.

Both of our views have been summed up rather nicely in the most recent Yamagato comic strip by Beeslo and Colonel Panic. It's funny and definitely worth reading!
