AudioShocker Podcast #178 - Hair Helmet

AudioShocker Podcast

Nick shares his recipe for Maple Watermelon Mustard Glaze... AND he shares his Kung Fu Panda 2 advance review. Neal doesn't understand why it took so long to make a second one. Nick talks about JCVD's Kung Fu Panda cameo AND he recommends Van Damme's new reality show, Behind Closed Doors (check this episode of Jean-Claude preparing to film his part as Master Croc).

Kung Fu Panda 2 review

Then Neal introduces the concept of the 80s hair helmet fashion trend... WHY DID IT EXIST?!?!?!? That spins off into a discussion of hair fashion over the decades. Nick is confused by a Tumblr post that he can't find anymore, and then Neal introduces a bunch of random topics.

We name drop Street Fighter II, Darkstalkers, King of Fighters, Marvel Super Heroes, Shuma-Gorath, Spider-Man's slow ass web ball in MvC3, Desk's MvC3 vids, and tons more as we deliver 30 minutes of video game love.

New to Time Log? Start from the beginning with #0!

It's the horrible moment you've all been waiting for!!! Actually, no one's been waiting for this moment... no one except for FutureNixon and the FutureNazis, that is.

This is the beginning of the Time Log webcomic's ACT III, our momentous final chapter in which everything epic that has ever come before will soon pale in comparison!

In case you missed it or you need to get caught up, check out the Time Log master list for links to all of ACT II on Facebook, Flickr, and (of course) the AudioShocker.

BTW, I need your help. I'm in the running to win a table at this summer's Indie Book Event in NYC. But I can't win if I don't have enough votes!!! So pls VOTE FOR ME HERE!

And last but least (VERY least), here are some disturbing photos of Eva Braun previous to her extremely timely death, including her in blackface, along with another one of her wearing an old school bath suit and doing the crab walk.

EDIT (05.13.11): I just wanna add one quick thing -- if you're in Pittsburgh, you can buy The New Time Log (1 of 3) at both Phantom of the Attic Comics in Oakland and Fleeting Pages in East Liberty. Our first round of The New Time Log (1 of 3) already sold out at Fleeting Pages, but we restocked yesterday and we're back in action!

Ross and Nick vs. CallGraph

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

On the whole, CallGraph is a great program. It's free, it's efficient, and it helps me record over a hundred podcasts a year. But every so once and awhile, it drops the ball.

Like last night, for example (and this time and this time and this time). Ross and I recorded a nearly flawless episode, sandwiched in between a lot of other good conversation. And, uhhhhhh, I hate to say it... but it's gone. Well, not so much gone as it just never recorded Ross and barely recorded me.

I'm waiting to hear back from Ross to see if he wants to record something quick today to take the place of what was supposed to be A Podcast with Ross and Nick #101. So the show might still happen this week. Or not.

But whatever it is, it won't be the solidness that was last night's intended #101 conversation.

AudioShocker Podcast #177 - Mediocre Expectations

AudioShocker Podcast

Nicki Minaj got a ____ job, Neal wasn't feeling They Live, and Nick needs your votes to win a table at the Indie Book Event... VOTE HERE!

Neal's dad wrote an angry blog post and Nick shares about an AWFUL experience at the America's Best Value Inn (the Columbus/North hotel on Sinclair Road in Columbus, Ohio (NEVER STAY THERE!!!))

Nick and Justique were appalled by the crappiness of the 90s Iron Man show (watch the vid in this post!), animated All-Star Superman is good by the end but boring up front, and Neal complains about too many superhero movies in one summer (well, not really... he just ponders how publishing ties into all of it).

Sequential Underground #15 - Rethinking Webcomics

Sequential Underground

The podcast by indie comics creators for indie comics creators slide on its thinking cap and gets to work!

First up, Shawn and Nick were invited to hang out at Phantom of Attic Comics (Oakland) for Free Comic Book Day 2011, and they share about their awesome experience.

Then the guys briefly talk about the recently completed Time Log webcomic ACT II. They agree -- it's better in one chunk as opposed to reading it week-to-week.

That thought spins off into a discussion about rethinking webcomics -- how they're released, how they're promoted, and how they're collected.

Is the traditional system flawed? Why are graphic novel collections a better idea for indie creators than single issues? How could releasing webcomics as chapters improve the reading experience?

And what are some good ways to sell webcomics as a physical product? Nick likes the digital comic card, and Shawn likes CD collections.

Read all of Time Log ACT II in one big chunk

Last Thursday saw the completion of Time Log's second act, and now we're giving it to you en masse!

In fact, all the feedback we've received so far has told us that Time Log is more satisfying when you consume it in collected gulps rather than tiny week-to-week bites. And that's why we're making sure you can gorge yourself on the misadventures of Pete, Nick, Shawn, Paige, and Justique in two delicious ways:

Let us know how it tastes!!!

Come kick it with the AudioShocker for FCBD!

Not only can you hang with the AudioShocker today on Free Comic Book Day, the greatest of all holidays... you also get to hang with us in two different international locations*!!!

In Pittsburgh, the birthplace of the AudioShocker, you can chill with me (uhhhh, Nick), Shawn Atkins of Time Log and Sequential Underground, Seth "the Fronzinator" Fronzoli (also of SU), and [wait for it]... maybe Justique!!!! (I knew I'd sell you with the possibility of Justique).

Where in Pittsburgh, you ask? Why at none other than the greatest** comic book shop on Earth -- Phantom of the Attic Comics (Oakland)!!! I'll be there from 10ish till the late afternoon peddling all my self-published book AND giving away free Stick Cats maxi-comics (along with the never-before-heard Stick Cats theme song!!!).

In Toronto, Ross Campbell of A Podcast with Ross and Nick will be at TCAF. I'm guessing that he won't have any free comics today, BUT he does have the brand new Shadoweyes in Love as well as his self-published Mountain Girl collection. Exciting! He also has interns. Twin interns. TAKE PICTURES AND SEND THEM TO ME! I want evidence that these interns tortured him this weekend.

*Yes, I know that sounds way more epic than it really is.

**Okay, to be fair, I've probably only been to 30 or 40 shops in my lifetime. But it's the best one out of all of those! Better than any I've been to in NYC, LA, Chicago, Philly, Boston, Texas, Florida, Arizona, London, and the list goes on. The only competition was San Francisco and that's mostly because James Sime ran down the bus for me when it passed me up. You da man, James!

Culturology #88 - Name Drop City

Wow. So what a month of poetry it was (check out the documentation at www.omiami.org)! Not one to let all my responsibilities constantly slip by, the month of May brings a return to my culturological musings, and my vainglorious quest to make it to 100 posts. So this one might be a bit scattershot, as I pick up some pieces from the past month, but I'm really thinking that maybe, just maybe, I might make it back to my form of yore and drop some serious cultural science all over these here internets. Let's see...

During O, Miami, I met many incredible poets. I also met Kool Moe Dee and Monie Love, both of whom turned out to be incredibly caring and eloquent people.

I also met James Franco, which probably means something to all you fans of the Spider-Man movies. Here's pictorial evidence :

This, I think, would officially be the closest I've ever gotten to an encounter with pop culture. I think you can tell from our facial expressions that it really meant a lot to both of us.

The next most recent encounter, before the festival, was a time two winters ago, when I was walking down the street in Chelsea, Manhattan, just after a large snowstorm, and walked past Willem Dafoe (I know, the other Spider-Man actor!, crazy!), and I was looking at him, being all, like, "I think that's Willem Dafoe!" and he looked right back at me and without even nodding, acknowledged the fact that he was, indeed, Willem Dafoe, and that no words or body language need pass between us.

And one of my best friends kind of looks like Elijah Wood, who is easily confusable with Tobey Maguire, and my mom used to watch Wings a lot, so I feel like I've pretty much met all the important actors from the Spider-Man movies. And Kirsten Dunst. Kirsten Dunst.

Time Log #37

Time Log webcomic ACT II ends with this stunning Time Vortex montage!!! The FutureNazis and FutureNixon edge ever closer to fulfilling their evil plans as Nick and Shawn race through the Vortex in the hopes of stopping them!

New to Time Log? Start from the beginning with #0!

Need to get caught up on Time Log? NO PROB! Nick and Shawn were last seen leaving Miami, with coke, guns, money, and sandwiches in tow. FutureNixon was last seen blowing up the Land of the Unicorns. Annddd... the FutureNazis, along with both Petes, were last seen in 1846 as they made a quick stop to kidnap Stephen Foster. (And here's a link to "Eye of the Tiger" in case you want to test out the soundtrack.)

Soon, I'll be collecting all of Time Log's ACT II and posting it on Facebook for you to read in one big chunk. It's so much easier that way. Trust me!

Also, don't forget that the real Shawn and Nick (not nearly as sexy as the cartoon Shawn and Nick) will be at Phantom of the Attic Comics in Oakland (in Pittsburgh) this upcoming Saturday, May 7th for the store's Free Comic Book Day 2011 party!

Seriously, it gets wild in there. Free comics, candy, entertainment, incredibly brilliant indie comics creators *ahem*, and more. You can scoop your own copies of the Time Log one-shot, The New Time Log (1 of 3), and the newest digital sensation, the AudioShocker Comics Archives v1 comic card. So come see us this weekend!

Oh, and of course, you MUST be back here next week for the shocking start of ACT III. We promise that this one won't disappoint!!! It's bright, flashy, potentially controversial, and in unquestionably poor taste... everything you've come to expect from the AudioShocker.
