Time Log #36

Last time, we took a brief story detour to join FutureNixon as he time-tortured infamous sci-fi scribe, Philip K. Dick. This week, we rejoin the maniacal menace as he lands in a familar place... somewhere that was last seen in Time Log #22... the Land of the Unicorns!!!

*SNIFFLE* I'm gonna miss those unicorns!

But the story must go on!!! In fact, this story is getting ready to reach the end of its second act next week!

And after that? Ooohhhhhh it's the moment Pete and I have been waiting for ever since we converted the epic tale of Time Log into a webcomic. We're talking mega-shocking-didn't-see-it-coming-awesome. And that's only two weeks away!

Sandwiched in between the end of ACT II and the start of ACT III is a very special event... a little something called Free Comic Book Day 2011!

If you're in Pittsburgh on Saturday, May 7th, come hang with Shawn Atkins and myself at Phantom of the Attic Comics in Oakland. We'll be there doing goofy sketches, giving out our own original free comics, and selling copies of the Time Log one-shot, The New Time Log (1 of 3), and the AudioShocker Comics Archives v1 digital comic card.

Plus there's candy, lots of other free comics, and great sales. Phantom really pulls out all the stops for its customers on FCBD, so it's an event VERY worth your time if you love comics and you live in PGH.

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #99 - Fratboy Realism

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #31! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 31 ): Rogue was on a mission, Black Tom and Banshee get turned into siblings, Banshee looks like a flying squirrel, and Juggernaut is stupid.

Fratboy realism. Ross invented it... but it's got a life of its own! We read our definitions (shout out to Bo and his definition). Then we argue about our definitions. Fratboy realism vs. nerd realism. Culture wars and mob mentality. Gritty!!!

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 32 ) and our anniversary celebration!!!

ALSO: Give us your suggestions for next week's #100 episode spectacular! Leave a note in the comments OR leave a voicemail on the AudioShocker's automated comment line by calling 412-567-7606.

AudioShocker Podcast #175 - Racks and Racks

AudioShocker Podcast

Instant podcasting!!! This was recorded moments before it was posted, so we're getting topical. Shiek vs. chic, Mr. Softee, Nick saw Hop, Neal learned that Tide released a new laundry thing, Nick learned that the stocks are at a 3-year high, Katie Couric is leaving CBS Evening News, Avengers begins filming today, and Barnes & Noble will push more comic book issues into their stores in June.

Sequential Underground #14 - Audience

Sequential Underground

The podcast by indie comics creators for indie comics creators talks audience!

Shawn and Nick share their experiences with trying to build online audiences for their comics. They discuss the following networks and directories (loosely) in this order:

Shawn is looking for any audience that wants to have fun, and in particular he tries to make his stories click with new comics readers. Ideally, Nick wants a massive audience, but he really wants the fans of twisted humor to keep coming back again and again.

NEXT: Give us your suggestions!!! (Or don't... but we'd prefer if you did.)

Time Log #35

Last week, we watched as the FutureNazis time-snatched Stephen Foster from 1846 (yes, I said "time-snatched"). This week, we travel to another time and place... a time and place ripe for a little bit of quantum bullying!!!

No big revealing behind-the-scenes write up for this week, sorry. Though at some point it would definitely be interesting to recap the script squabbles Pete and I have been having about characterization, character placement, and other such vital minutiae.

Instead of digging deep into Time Log's sordid history, I'd rather keep it simple this week and feature a photo of the winner of our half-assed contest that we first announced back in Time Log #26. The winner is none other than the stupendous Scott Hedlund, a mix of man, mountain, and machine that illustrates like a tornado and loves like a grizzly bear. See for yourself:

Scott's currently working on a revamp of Weirdlings with his bud, Brian. Go check it out!!! It's only two pages in right now, but it's two fantastic pages in :)

And be back here next week for more FutureNixon hijinks!!!

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #98 - Return of the Turtlecast

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

EXTREME #30! X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 30 ): The Phoenix Saga sucks so far, Jean Grey cosplay is funny, we go off on a tangent about sexualized superheroes, and Beast is annoying.

Then it's TMNT!!! The Turtlecast is back and it's a doozy. We talk about TMNT back issues, City at War, the colored bandannas, if the TMNT should ever wear masks at all, and what we'd like to see in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie relaunch.

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 3, Episode 31 ) and fratboy realism (for real this time!!!).

AudioShocker Podcast #174 - We Live

AudioShocker Podcast

Neal loves Karmin's Look At Me Now and he watched Coco Before Chanel before the podcast. Then it's Lil B's I'm Gay album announcement, plus Nick and Justique watched They Live. And then Neal ponders Valiant Comics and newsstand comics distribution in the 90s.

Chun-Li MvC Hyper Combo Wallpaper!

This week, we celebrate the righteous leg twirling fury of Chunners!!!

Up first? My most favoritest Chun-Li move ever - the 7 Star Sky Flash Kick* Hyper Combo. Beautiful, isn't it?

Time Log #34

This week, we're picking up on a totally different plot thread from last week. Instead of following Shawn and Nick, we're rejoining Pete and FuturePete, who were last seen in Time Log #27. Our heroes have been kidnapped by the FutureNazis for reasons currently unknown!!!

If you're confused, that's okay. We want you to be a little disoriented! The banjo player and raggedy transcriber are none other than Ned and Stephen Foster, two important characters from the very first Time Log story.

[Didn't read it? Catch up with #0 or pick up your own copy of the Time Log one-shot from Amazon or DriveThruComics... or you can email me about purchasing a copy of the AudioShocker Comics Archives v1 comic card!]

Granted, I've received feedback from many confused friends that they prefer to read Time Log as one big chunk rather than week-by-week. If you feel the same way, then you'll be happy to know that ACT II is almost complete! Time Log #37 will be the last installment in the second act. When I post that strip in a few weeks, I'll also make sure to post links to the collected ACT II on Facebook and Flickr.

In the meantime, it would be AWESOME if you could take a few moments out of your busy day to vote for Time Log on TopWebComics.com. We're languishing in lower rankings right now, and we could use your help to give us a boost. THX!!!

Before I close out the Time Log festivities for the week, I'd like to share a little something with you:

That's the art of today's comic mashed up with a snippet of dialogue from Time Log #32. Time Log is composed in Photoshop, but I letter it in Illustrator. And to keep my lettering consistent, I normally copy an older TL lettering file and then plug in the new text and reshape the old balloons.

Often, when I'm using an older letters file to make a new one, the past dialogue lines up nicely with the new art, and it creates a totally different comic. I'll keep an eye out for any really hilarious combinations of old text/new art in the future and share them with you as I find them.
