Scarlet Phoenix by Ross Campbell
Ross gives us some PB v2 style hate with an amalgam of Marvel Comics characters -- the Scarlet Witch and the Phoenix Force. I thought I had a hate-filled rant from Ross, but I couldn't find one in my email. So, in its place (unless Ross wants to send me one...), here's what Ross DID say in his emails about this sketch:
11/21/10 - i decided who i’m going to do for Project Basement! Scarlet Witch possessed by the Phoenix Force! i couldn't decide which one i hated more so Kaylie suggested combining them. i like Jean herself just fine, i just hate the Phoenix Force cosmic entity thing. XD

you never asked me for a rant! i would've written something up, i didn't know this was going to be posted today! d'ohhh.
anyway, i'll write something here real quick. i hate Scarlet Witch because she's so ill-defined, like what is her personality, can anybody describe what she's like? she's either "Quicksilver's sister/Magneto's daughter," or she's totally defined by her super power, which itself is undefined and is basically a non-power that can just do anything depending on what the plot is and what the writer needs it to be. then they still try to explain it like it's a realistic thing but it's just gibberish. get a load of the wikipedia explanation of her power: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_Witch#Powers_and_abilities and she also has a boring costume even though i admit i like the Valentine's Day color scheme.
and the Phoenix Force i think is the worst idea in all of X-Men, made even worse because it was the result of a stupid retcon to not only bring Jean back to life but to somehow absolve her of her wrong-doings in the first Dark Phoenix story, so they invented this stupid bullshit idea where it wasn't REALLY Jean but a generic, boring cosmic entity that had replaced her or something...? but then after that it's not replacing her and just possesses her? i don't know. it's a vaguely-defined bird from space made of fire or something that possesses people but really really likes to possess Jean and it always brings her back to life and it's stupid and magical. it would've been so much cooler if part of Jean's innate mutant power was coming back to life, which i guess it sort of was originally when the Phoenix powers were mutant-power-based before the retcon, that would be so much more interesting.
SO AWESOME.
@Ross: About two weeks ago I told you when it was going up and and I asked for the rant!!! I even forwarded the email to you now so you can comment on this and be like "Oh man somehow I missed that email before..." BUT with that said it's definitely my fault for not sending a reminder at some point during this past week. That's my least favorite part of Project Basement is reminding people about stuff so I always slack on that, so sorry about that, Ross. I'll get better!!! And good rant, because even though I don't dislike Wanda or the Phoenix Force, I definitely understand why they irritate you.
@Kelly: You should draw a Project Basement sketch!! I bet you hate (hmmm... trying to be somewhat accurate here) ummm Guy Gardner. Yeah, that's the ticket! I could see you hating him.

so. just a quick question to people who read the comments on the main site --- how do you feel about the scrollpop/ AS shoutout ads? would you rather they didn't slide out? More frequent? less frequent? animated? just trying to see what to change/add next. -nrs
