aw, Justique! i didn't know you wanted tea! :( i can do Best Convention if you want to do Tea. i hope it's okay that i keep making up new categories.

YEAH, how come you didn't post Andrew's fanart?!

Dolls is awesome! good stuff. i love how the girl at the end doesn't seem to mind that her dad got killed and she just gladly runs off with the other dude.

Human Centipede is also awesome! i wrote a review: http://mooncalfe.livejournal.com/131160.html

i hated Machine Girl, i hate all those new-generation Japanese splatter flicks like RoboGeisha or Tokyo Gore Police or Meatball Machine or Samurai Bikini Squad or whatever. so boring!!!! ugh. one i do like, though, that isn't quite splatter but still kind of similar, is Tetsuo The Iron Man, you should check that out, he has a giant drill penis. that's from a different era, though, i think something happened in Japanese horror/gore cinema around the late 90s and gave birth to this new gore subgenre where all the effects are really funny and good but the movie itself is boring as shit and they all follow the same template. i think it might have something to do with this small group of Japanese filmmakers influenced by ultra-gory old Peter Jackson movies, like Dead Alive and Bad Taste (both of which you should check out if you haven't, i think Dead Alive is generally considered the goriest/bloodiest movie ever made) and old Sam Raimi horror like Evil Dead 1 & 2, and they kind of imitate that aesthetic, while doing their own thing with it of course, but whatever they do with it leaves me cold. and this is coming from a huge gorehound like myself. XD

i've seen a bunch of them and i think the best one is Tokyo Gore Police, but it has some really strange racist things in it, this one part with a bizarre character that i think is supposed to be a crazy caricature of a black man but it's so strange that i couldn't really figure it out. there are also similar blackface type caricatures in Frankenstein Girl vs. Vampire Girl which i think is by the same filmmaker so i don't know what's going on there. :(

oh yeah, Nick, have you seen Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky?

  3. 3 nick marino

man i have seen NONE of those movies but i should get cracking on that! you know what's gonna happen? i'll watch them in six months and act like you never told me about them. i always do stupid stuff like that.

i posted Andrew's fan art over on the new Super Haters site. i'm not really doing much with SH on here anymore except link to stuff that relates directly to the old strips on here (for example, the SPACE Prize stuff). did you see my colored version of his Destruct-O-Tron? i'm gonna color the other one too eventually.

as for YDS, i'm glad to have movies/music for once (EASY TO JUDGE!). i mean, justique is gonna have to take most of music cause i only listen to NES themes, interpolations of Street Fighter music, Blaxploitation soundtracks, and 70s/80s funk... a.k.a. no music that's still getting made today.

Super Haters is the best comic of all time!

haha, that's okay. if you liked Machine Girl you'll probably like the rest of those Japanese splatter flicks, i'm not sure i can gauge whether you'll like Dead Alive or Bad Taste, they're also super gory and wacky but it's a different sensibility. you haven't even seen any of the Evil Dead movies??

damn, just checked netflix and Story Of Ricky isn't streaming, it's not even available on dvd, either. d'oh. i guess i could mail you my copy if you promise to mail it back!!!!

i looked on the Super Haters site but i couldn't find your recolored piece... it's the blogspot site, right? or is there another one i somehow don't know about?!

  6. 5 ross

oh wait i did see this! i thought you did a different one or something. looks awesome, in any case.

  7. 6 nick marino

you know i'll mail it back. i still have your copy of darkstalkers 3 to mail back cause i never play it anymore!!! i think i prefer the darkstalkers characters in games other than their own... not because the character sprites and designs aren't awesome, because they are, but because i don't like the gameplay that much. weird move sets, among other things.

and thx! here's the piece ross is talking about if anyone else wants to check it out:

Classics: There are lots of old pulp writers on Project Gutenberg, like Edgar Rice Burroughs, Clark Ashton Smith, etc. There's some fun, trippy adventure stories to be had there.

YDS: TV: Doctor Who; Music: "The Fool" by Warpaint; Books: Echo City by Tim Lebbon; Comics: Orc Stain; Tea: Irish Breakfast; Movies: the only ones I saw in a theater (and thus know came out in 2010) are Scott Pilgrim and Easy A, and those were equally fun, so can I vote for two?

Nick: you don't need to mail Darkstalkers 3 back, i never play it, i only have one controller, my playstation is buried deep in the recesses of my closet. actually, if you did mail it back i'll donate it to the group home my friend works at. i gave them the couple Street Fighter games i had and some other 2-player stuff.

  14. 11 nick marino

Justique and I haven't played it in forever so we should probably do that so someone can use it!
