Re-Listen: AudioShocker Podcast #1

I'm embarking on a new project that may or mat not turn out to be something I see all the way through to the end: re-listening to all of the AudioShocker podcasts in chronological order. But for now, it's fun!

AudioShocker Podcast #1 - Pop Culture Kingdom
Original air date: October 2, 2007

What we talk about:
It's our debut! Neal and I talk about music for the first-third of the show. It's a pretty dated conversation, but also kind of funny as we struggle to cope with hip hop's digital trend that hit strong in 2007.

Then we transition into movies and TV. I talk about ALF and Neal talks about House. I tell a funny story that's 100% real but it sounds totally fake.

Then we transition from TV to comics. I talk about Iron Fist and JLA. Neal reflects on Batman and Superman. Then I ramble about more comics, including Y the Last Man.

Somewhere in there, Neal and I discuss the casting of Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man and if the movie's gonna suck (hahaha). Then we finish things off with our short-lived "Confessions" feature.

All in all:
Not bad! It holds up way better than I expected. The audio quality seemed decent, and the conversation was relatively interesting. The only problem is that it's far too long. It would have been better if it was split into at least two episodes... but otherwise, #1 is a fun listen.

Time Log #15

The Time Log sent Shawn, Pete, and Nick back one week in time to stunning Scranton, Pennsylvania. Instead of risking another push of the button, the friends decide to enjoy their week in -- ummm, er -- paradise...

I've never spent a week in Scranton... but I have spent a few hours there. And it was nothing like this comic strip. NOTHING.

I've also skied on Montage Mountain (which is in the Scranton region, though not right next to the city, thus making it slightly more tolerable).

And I've hit on ballerinas.

So let's just say that I can really relate to this particular installment of Time Log. Pete, you've truly reached me.

A Podcast with Ross and Nick #76 - Tales from the EXTREME

A Podcast with Ross and Nick

Teasing next week's episode featuring The Minority. AND... Kelly announces the 3 Chicks podcast starting next week on CSBG!!!!

EXTREME #8! X-Men ( Season 1, Episode 8 ): It's a mess, Jubilee's sweater, Wolverine's golf cart Jeep, the construction scene sucks, costumes vs. clothes, and more inconsistent powers.

Tales from the Hood is not as good as Justique remembers, it doesn't end strong or start strong, and puppets!

NEXT: X-Men ( Season 1, Episode 9 ) and The Minority

AudioShocker Podcast #157 - Right Now

AudioShocker Podcast

Vamping, you should like the Unlicensed Attorneys at Law, can you still find Zima?, icing, The Story of a Sex Surrogate, American Pimp, Arrested Development (the show and the band), and WHAT IS RIGHT NOW???? (a.k.a. do you know where I can score a Betamax rental of Time Cop?)

Project Basement - Jean Grey and Cyclops by Kaylie McDougal

Project Basement powers up with:

Jean Grey and Cyclops by Kaylie McDougal

Jean Grey and Cyclops by Kaylie McDougal

Kaylie is back for PB v2! And she says:

I chose Jean Grey and Cyclops, which will probably make me pretty unpopular. Admittedly, I have only a passing knowledge and interest in the X-Men, but the main reason I haven't been more inclined to become more involved with the franchise is because of its focus on characters like Jean and Cyclops. Maybe it's the nihilist teenager in me, but even as a small child, I found the pair sickeningly goody-two-shoes. While other mutants went through emotional turmoil surrounding their powers or the struggle of being labeled second-class citizens, it never seemed that Scott and Jean ever really had any meaningful character development in a way that stuck with me. I guess Jean has the Phoenix thing, and Cyclops became slightly more interesting when Emma Frost entered the picture, and it's not that I don't feel they have the potential to be interesting, but I guess my point is that these characters bored me so much from the start that I never really cared what happened with them. Obviously I'm in the minority, but I can't help but hold these two as some of my top least-favorite comic characters ever.

Next week: more hatin' on Cyclops by Pete Borrebach!

Culturology #80 - Are You on TV? Then You are a Republican!

I got back to America in time for two things:

1) The mid-term elections.

2) Conan O'Brien's new show on TBS.

And boy did they both suck!

I've written before about late night television, and tuning back into Conan's new show confirmed the conclusion I came to back in Culturology #55:

One thing I don't feel bad about is Conan O'Brien losing his job. I think I stopped really caring about late night TV just in time for that whole hullabaloo (despite my one hemi-post trying to speak of the issues there-involved).

There's obviously something spurious in my continued need to state that I don't care about something anymore, since clearly I continue to care just enough to keep bringing it up (and, Norm MacDonald should still have his own talk show, and I would watch that). So maybe this is the last time that I bother with Conan, since he's just getting more and more boring. In a way, basic cable is safer for him, since there can't really be any ratings demand.

Speaking of the mid-term elections, I don't think there's a better insult available in my repetoire right now then "You are a Republican!" So, now that Conan isn't funny anymore (now that I'm not 17 anymore), I feel like he must be a Republican. Jon Stewart stopped being funny, what, five years ago? Republican. Does your television show involve sitting at a desk? Republican.

I think Teabaggers probably hate and distrust most not-totally-obviously-insane-and-bigoted television personalities, but I think, basically, if you're on television, than you're a Republican. Even if you're a Democrat, or "liberal," or whatever, if you're on TV then you're basically a Republican. There was some thing on the internet the other day about some Republican-minded survey group releasing a list of what shows Democrats watch versus what shows Republicans watch. But, sorry kids, all TV is right-wing TV.

Congratulations to Conrad Knapp -- occasional AudioShocker contributor, my childhood best friend, and now an official imaginary Scrantonian!!!

In other news... PETE, PLS DON'T KILL ME!!! I changed a few tiny bits of this strip's text to make everything fit!

And in other news... yeah, okay, I posted this one a little later than usual. BLAME IT ON PETE'S TEXT AND THE STUPID MILKSHAKE FACTORY THAT MADE ME SICK LAST NIGHT! Or just blame it on me.
