Time Log #16

Remember FuturePete? Yeah, we almost forgot about him too. He was last seen in Time Log #11, right after he finished his extended flashback and then proceeded to abruptly depart in #12. Wanna know where he went? Look no further!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

This year, I’m thankful that I don’t live in this dystopic future created by fictional Pete’s mistakes. However, I do live in a dystopic present created by real Pete’s butt-ton of dialogue that I have to letter week after week.

Whatever happened to dramatic silence, Pete?!? WHAT HAPPENED???

Agreed! I think Justique did a great job coming up with the monochromatic background color scheme.

    the statue watchers!! so cool.
it always seems like there’s a big jump in the story with each strip, like i have to find my bearing each time, but they’re definitely connected, right? they aren’t just one-offs each time?

oh yeah, i’m dumb, reading them all at once it makes way more sense, haha. i’m sorry. still confused about the 2069 stuff suddenly appearing though. maybe that’s the point.

@Ross, i know what you mean because i really feel like they’re disjointed when i work on them week-to-week. but whenever i go back and read them as one, i think they flow pretty well. but this one in particular is a little bit more jarring than usual because the future just shows up with no foreshadowing. that’s on purpose… this is loosely the end of our first act (well, next week is really the end of the first act, as least in terms of scripting if not actual execution) and we’re teasing things to come in the next act!

speaking of things to come… one word: unicorns.

@Ross: Thanks for shouting out the Statue Watchers! Nothing says “future distopia” like creatures whose sole job in life is to sit and keep a look out for signs that shit is magically getting better.

And I’ve been trying to shape each strip so that it does read as a stand-alone set of panels week-to-week. Cause otherwise it fails the webcomic format (at least to my mind). But then carrying through a an overall plot that requires a bit of finagling (huge amounts of this second TL story takes place in flashback, which complicates everything). This strip picks up with FuturePete where #11 left off.

One thing that can help is to keep track of the whisps of purple TimeSmoke from strip to strip–that marks points where characters are entering and leaving the TimeVortex.
