A Podcast with Ross and Nick #61 - The (sorta) Minxcast

The Minx breaks stereotypes and breaks Nick's attention span. Are zombies played right now? Are zombies the next superheroes? Or, as Ross asks, were superheroes the next zombies??? The Thor movie seems oddly sexed (Ross wants the horns longer and bigger). And Batman Inc., and modern comic book quasi-cliffhangers. And. AND. AAANNDDD.

I'm sorry guys. I guess the Minx didn't go over too well. Contrary to what Ross said though I did watch most of it. You have to admit that the minx's boyfriend was pretty awesome, total average college guy.

I'm amazed that the zombie thing is still going on, like all of those meme type things related to zombies are so irritating. Personally, I think the Italian horror movies did zombies the best, City of the Living Dead anyone?

I love how Justique says "Audioshockuh".

Man, I have to say Nick really dropped the ball on his end. It seemed like Ross did all the heavy lifting. At one point Nick was just interviewing Ross. "What do you think about that, Ross?"

Batman Inc?! Wtf?! That seems like a totally anti Batman thing to do. He's going to let El Gaucho wear a Batman costume? What if one of these proxies picks up a gun or something? Murders a jaywalker? It doesn't seem like something Bruce Wayne would go for.

Advice on the ashcan; color paper cover with black and white ink. It's an ashcan, save the color for the tpb. Or turn it into a pdf and sell it for 99 cents.

@Mark: haven't seen City of the Living Dead, and contrary to what my most recent experience tells me, i wanna check it out!!! my favorite zombie flick = Cemetery Man

@AK: FINE! I DROPPED THE BALL! CALL ME BUTTERFINGERS! but have yoouuuuu tried to watch The Minx? it's so bad!

i think Morrison's idea is that Bruce is profoundly changed by his time travel. dunno how it works into the overall concept, but i'm willing to give it a shot (and by give it a shot, i mean probably not read it but not hate on it either).

and good advice on the ashcan. i just wanted to try something different. i'm not out of options yet!!!

Mark, are you just trying to rile me up here? fuck City of the Living Dead, come on. so bad and boring, you're like "are there any actual zombies in your zombie movie?" heh. Zombie 2, Nightmare City, and Demons 1 and 2, and of course the awesome Cemetery Man are the only good ones!!! >:( even Dario Argento's Italian cut/version of the Dawn of the Dead is terrible.

anyway, yeah, the boyfriend in The Minx was pretty cool, definitely the best part. i liked how into The Third Man he was.

Nick: speaking of Cemetery Man, yeah, it's pretty sweet. i used to love it a lot more than i do now but i still dig it.

oh yeah, i almost forgot AGAIN: i wanted to bring this up in the podcast but i kept getting sidetracked, but i'm aware of the potential hypocrisy of me being one of the people i'm talking about in regards to zombie material, since I did a zombie comic! XD

Ross: I beg to differ! First, I would add The Beyond to your list. If someone was entirely new to Italian zombies movies I'd start with the beyond and demons 1.

but I think city of the living dead really raised the bar. Like with that weird substance they kept showing.

Mark: gah, i forgot about The Beyond! you're right, that's a good one too. i love the spider scene. all i remember from City of the Living Dead is that the characters kept talking about the end of the world when the undead emerge from the gates of hell or something but nothing ever happened, nothing ever came, except a girl puking up her intestines. and then when the gate actually opens and the gang tries to stop it there's like 3 zombies. that's the army of hell, 3 zombies. haha. i think House by the Cemetery was probably worse, remember one that? that kid Bob? "i wish!" XD

I definitely remember House by the Cemetery. I wasn't sure if that was really a zombie movie though. Wasn't it just one guy, Freudstein or whatever? But yeah, that was a good one too. I just remember City of the Living Dead as being the height of the Italian horror movie nights. Like that's when we were all the most into it. hehe
