Nominate Your Favorites for the 2009 YOU DON'T SUCK Awards!!!

As we mentioned yesterday, the polls are now open for the AudioShocker's second annual YOU DON'T SUCK Awards for Music, Movies, Comics, and TV. Much like last year, we are soliciting your picks for this past year's top sounds, sights, floppies, and serials.

Get started now by posting your nominations below in the comments section. You can also email your picks to audio, neal, or nick @ audioshocker.com or tweet them to us @audioshocker. And you can always post them on our facebook page. Hell, CALL them in (412.567.7606) if you're stoned and lazy.

ydsa2009

Neal created this logo, and it does NOT suck

Final results will be posted Jan 1st 2010 or thereabout next year.

P.S. Anyone submitting Old Dogs, A Christmas Carol, or excessively vocodered hip hop music as nominees will be cast out from the AudioShocker kingdom forever!!! Okay, we'll probably just make fun of you... but do you really want to face our harsh ridicule??? (Perhaps Pete does)

what about stuff that comes out later this month? like Avatar or Sherlock Holmes?? what if Sherlock Holmes is the BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR???

  2. 2 nick marino

there's plenty of time!!! ... as long as people nominate it before the end of the year!

  3. 3 neal

Ross, explain to me how a movie about smurfs is going to be the best movie of the year?

  4. AudioShocker Shoutouts!

    Shadoweyes in Love

  5. 4 nick marino

there are Smurfs in Sherlock Holmes???????

  6. 5 neal

you didn't know that nick? i figured of all people, YOU would know. I mean, aren't you and Gargamel best buds?

  7. 6 Tom Staley

haha! That remindes of Robot Chicken's send-up of the movie 7 starring the Smurfs! Classic!
I'd like to nominate the writer Brandon Sanderson for picking up the reigns of the epic fantasy series "The Wheel of Time" after the author Robert Jordan died of a blood disorder before completing the series. Sanderson was handpicked by Jordan and his wife/editor to finish the story. Big shoes to fill and with an especially critical audience that has been waiting 4 years for this book to come out. Sanderson's prose is not as flowing and familiar as Jordan's, but he can tell a damn good story.

    Wetmoon 5 is out now!

    or the southpark about avatar...

  10. 8 ross

    nick: smurfs are in Avatar!
i'm not even planning on seeing Avatar but it was the only other movie i could think of besides Holmes that comes out later in December.

  11. 9 nick marino

yeah yeah yeah - i was just being an @$$ about the smurfs! i know where they are. but seriously, Ross, you raise a good point - i still haven't scored a copy of Gentlemen Broncos, and i feel like that could be on the final list of contenders.

Tom, we weren't planning on including books as a category... but we have already had another request for books (from Pete, who wants to judge them)... so whatta ya say guys? should we also include books? (AHEM it's our only nomination so far so we should probably include it AHEM)

  22. 17 neal

I've been hearing crazy awesome things about Jersey Shore on MTV. It was all anyone was talking about last night. Twitter was all aflutter too. I may have to put in some "due diligence" and see if the academy should consider it.

  23. 18 ross

just realized that by telling people about this on my personal pages, that Wet Moon 5 is going to crop up as best comic. not sure how that's going to work when i'm the Comics Judge. O_O

  24. AudioShocker Shoutouts!

yeah, ross, that had occurred to me. if need be, we can always switch and you can take movies and i'll take comics. i mean, basically, that would be rigging it so Wet Moon 5 wins.

  29. 22 Andrew Kilian

I do hereby nominate Ross Campbell's Wetmoon 5 for best Graphic Novel/Comic Book that does not suck! :)

  30. 23 neal

well then, it looks like the entire userbase at DA is going to nominate Wet Moon 5. I can see where this is going real quick.

And Tom, (aka Spiccoli), you want to nominate food for the YDS awards? I'm not sure that is a sanctioned category, but perhaps we can start a miscellaneous nomination pool. I mean, why not...

and YES, Breaking Bad is totally on the nom list. (again, thanks to Spiccoli for turning me onto that bad jackson)

  31. 24 chaos-turtle

justin leach all the way baby!! woo

  32. AudioShocker Shoutouts!

    Shadoweyes is available now!!!

  33. 25 pete

Do graphic novels count as books or comics?

  34. 26 neal

i think graphic novels count as comics. unless it is 'like a velvet glove cast in iron' - in which case you should burn the book, bury the ashes, and then burn down the crematorium too.

and i mean, that is at the minimum. you may want to claw out your eyeballs for good measure.

  35. 27 pete

Well, I nominate Asterios Polyp as best comic/graphic novel then. And if it's ignored, I'll just nominate it for best book as well.

  36. AudioShocker Shoutouts!

Super Haters is the best comic of all time!

  37. 28 Markus

hmmmm Masjestic XII, eh? interesting. i just received a press release email about Majestic XII today... in fact, i've never even heard of it until today.

HEY... waitaminute, you guys wouldn't be attempting to stuff the 09 YDS ballot box, now would you???

P.S. okay so i just downloaded Majestic XII #1 at the link in the press release. WHOA. there are some seriously out of control boobies in this comic. i mean, DAMN. mega boobies. and how do some of those shirts stay on? like Scorch - i mean, that's gotta be taped on, right? and that's not to mention the chick who uses seashells as pasties.

P.P.S. hey Majestic guys - any chance you'd use "WHOA. There are some seriously out of control boobies in this comic." as a pull quote on the cover of Majestic XII #2? PLEASE???

  59. 45 ross

    haha, what the...
nick: i thought pete was the movies judge!

i think the problem for me being ANY judge is that i haven't read/seen hardly anything this year. i am seriously ill-equipped, i haven't seen/read anything anyone is nominating here except New Moon. XD

  60. AudioShocker Shoutouts!

    Shadoweyes is available now!!!

  61. 46 Jon

I want to nominate Majestic-xii as comic of the year.

  62. 47 Tom Harry

I am one of those people who nominates Majestic XII for the indy comic of the year. It is a pretty cool book, you should try it out, I did :)

  63. 48 nick marino

ross, obviously the decision is clear if you remain as comics judge: you must award Majestic XII the prize.

hahaha WTF??? where are all the Majestic XII people coming from? i appreciate your enthusiasm and all, Majestic XIIers, but nominating the book over and over again isn't going to win you anything. it's just crass.

  64. AudioShocker Shoutouts!

    Shadoweyes in Love

  65. 49 nick marino

correction: Ross and I have switched categories. he's judging movies and i'm judging comics.

and i totally forgot to nominate my very favorite movie of the year - X-Men Origins: Wolverine!!!!

  67. 51 Justin

    Music: KISS Sonic Boom

  68. AudioShocker Shoutouts!

  69. 52 ross

i guess i'll nominate stuff now, even if Sherlock Holmes turns out to be awesome, and i'm not planning on checking out Avatar or much else this month.

    comic: Beast by Marian Churchland
music: The Father Of Death by The Protomen
TV: didn't watch any new shows this year
book: The Sticks by Andy Deane
movie: Obsessed (i guess we know what's going to win!! BWAHAHA)

had a hard time picking between Obsessed and the new Friday the 13th, but Obsessed has Beyonce, so...

we should do nominations for the WORST stuff this year, too. i could name a ton of shit.

  70. 53 nick marino

no way Ross are you saying you actually like Beyonce, queen of the robots?? Weapon X of the robots (with Devon Aoki as Weapon VII or whatever). NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  75. 57 nick marino

i thought movies were decent this year. Cloudy was awesome. so was Wolvie. so was Surrogates. so was Star Trek. so was Ninja Assasin. Pete, you see any of those other than ST? check em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EXCLAMATION POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  76. AudioShocker Shoutouts!

    Shadoweyes is available now!!!

  77. 58 kaylie

Since I didn't see anyone else nominate it, I nominate Drag Me to Hell for best movie!

I didn't really read/see/hear much else this year in the other categories, and if I did, chances are I hated it, haha.

  78. 59 ross

oh yeah, i forgot about Drag Me To Hell! that was pretty good. i didn't see Meatballs (seems so utterly different than the book, don't know why they just didn't call it something different) or Surrogates.

i would almost definitely nominate Ponyo but i'm waiting to see it until i can get my hands on a subtitled version so i guess that probably won't be until next year. :(
