Why the Top 9? Because 10 is too many and 9 is better. 3 X 3 = Awesome. Now that’s what I call math.

Can't believe I've never seen a list like this before. You definately got the best ones on the list...although some are not my favs (like Cockrum & Quitely) Still a great List!
thx! ya know, as much as i love the Cockrum stories, he's not necessarily on my list of favorite of X-pencilers... but i don't think he can be denied as an essential because he designed the costumes (and, to a degree, even personalities) of some of the greatest X-Men characters of all time! from Storm to Colossus to Nightcrawler to the Starjammers and TONS more... you gotta respect the guy's work.
I like your rankings, but the UXM128 cover was drawn by George Perez & Terry Austin.
AudioShocker Shoutouts!

Jeff, i never knew! i have to say... i'm a little embarrassed. with Austin's inks on top, i couldn't even tell the difference between Perez and Bryne on that cover (i haven't read that issue since i was a kid). suffice to say, i switched out the image and put up Uncanny #142.
How can you not have Marc Silvestri or Art Adams anywhere on the list?! Honestly, Fall of the Mutants and Inferno may not have been the best crossovers but the mood and the darkness given to the characters has yet to be duplicated or in my opinion bettered. And as for Art, who can put the X-Men in cooler poses than that dude? Seriously, I think the stories those other artist worked on may have been more in depth but, if there wasn't a Marc or Art I wouldn't have even cared about the X-Men. They made me read all the back stories!
Damien, i have to admit that i favored artists who had some of the best scripts along with their great art. and it was tough to only pick nine guys. i honestly feel like the top five guys on this list have to stay, even if the order gets mixed around. i also feel like JRjr has to be on there too (he had a massive run and did some awesome work).
i love the art of Art Adams (i've got a giant poster of his work sitting behind me right now). as a cover artist, i think he's unbeatable. but i don't feel like his annuals and few single issues of X-Men make the cut when it comes to the best of the best interiors. as for Marc, he was right on the line for me. i love the X-Men the stuff he's done, but i also felt like Bachalo, Leonardi, and Quitely deserved nods too, and, ultimately, they won out for me.
anyway, this is a good place to start my second top 9 best X pencilers list:
Marc Silvestri
Art Adams
Joe Mad
John Bolton (i think he works in ink, but it still counts!)
who else?
AudioShocker Shoutouts!

I can't believe no one thought to mention Andy Kubert or Salvador Larocca. Skottie Young deserves a place up here too...
i like andy and sal, but there are so many awesome uncanny x-men / adjectiveless (new) x-men artists that i love... there just isn't enough room in a top 9 for all my favorites! and i like skottie's work a lot too but i was just focusing on artists who've been on the two main x titles (skottie only did the kid version of new x-men, right?). man if i expanded the list to my favorite x-pencilers on ANY title? DAAAAMN. that'd have to be a top 100 or something. i could do a whole separate list just for my top x-factor pencilers.
