The Top 9 Horror / Psychological Anime - Part Two

It was way back in The Top 9 Horror / Psychological Anime - Part One when I wrote about The Top #9-5 Horror / Psychological Anime... but it feels like only nanoseconds ago! Oh well, time flies when you're watching anime. Here's the rest:

4. Paranoia Agent [Buy it on DVD] Satoshi Kon strikes again. This psychological mind fuck had me addicted from the first episode. No more words...go watch this one.

3. Requiem from the Darkness [Buy it on DVD] Scariest anime and above all most disturbing media form I have ever experienced. There is violence from the start and the last few episodes were really horrifying. I'm still in the process of rewatching, slowly inching my way toward what I know will only disgust me, though I'm probably a little numb to the horror by now. Great anime! A must see for both horror and anime fans alike.

2. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni & Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai [Buy it on DVD] How could I possibly follow up that last choice...with a delicious little twist called When the Cicadas Cry! It seems like your normal cheesy harem anime, but right from the start you know there's something wrong. It's either the foreshadowed murders at the beginning of each arc or the actual conclusion at the end. Watch the first four episodes. If you're not hooked then turn it off.

1. Doomed Megalopolis [Buy it on DVD] My absolute favorite. Twisted in its own way, I fell in love with the first episode. I won't offer any spoilers or character peeks or anything like that. Just watch this supernatural thriller and prepare to be haunted.

Next: The Top 9 Reasons Why Comics Don't Need to Be Saved - Part One!

Why the Top 9? Because 10 is too many and 9 is better. 3 X 3 = Awesome. Now that’s what I call math.

Requiem from the Darkness - scariest anime and above all most disturbing media form you have ever experienced?

Elfen lied has a terrible plot
    Death Note is boring/cheap animation

Ghost in the Shell is above ALL, the BEST anime and coolest thing I have ever experienced. Paranoia Agent is my second fav, its pure gold.

Try Perfect Blue, or anything by Satoshi Kon.

seriously C? GITS? REALLY? what is this, 199X? GITS may have been hot when it came out, but it does not hold water today.

Justique - can we get a ruling here?

  11. 9 nick marino

i'll chime in for myself and say that you're totally wrong, Neal. GitS is a great movie. it's not perfect, and it certainly represents an era of anime that probably took itself TOO seriously, but it's really well-made and well-written.

i can't completely speak for Justique, but i can say that both of us really enjoy GitS. i'd almost go out on a limb and say that we both prefer GitS2, though. at least, it does some things even better than the first.

but i think you either gotta be nuts or jaded to say that GitS isn't a great movie. maybe not a great psychological anime, per se, but a great sci fi anime.

    Read Explorers of the Unknown

  13. 10 neallllll

lies. GITS def took itself way too seriously and set us up for all sorts of weird shit like Lain, etc.

im just unable to watch it without being all "what the hell?" and just wanting to turn it off.

  14. 11 stray

neal - you're one stupid bastard. If you don't like gits then just stay away from it, nobody gives a damn. But there are some of us out there who do this thing called THINKING and actually like to be challenged mentally by stuff like gits, that doesn't serve you everything storywise on a silver platter.

Dude, you're the weirdo, since you're commenting, never thought that?

Anyways, I liked the list, and I've watched nearly all anime listed :)

  19. 15 Ghost

School Days is the best ive seen. Seen it 5 times now and no matter how many times i watch it, it still screws me up inside.

    Shadoweyes in Love

  21. 16 you are a faggot

Elfen Lied has a bad plot and Death Note cheap animation? What the fuck,do you have the mental capacity of a fetus or something? They both had complex plots and neither had poor animation. I honestly don't see how your brain can comprehend how to use a keyboard...

@you are a faggot - great username! it totally makes your opinion seem valid and worthwhile. oh, and it definitely doesn't make you look like a troll.
